Lisa and Chris
When was your wedding?
27 May 2006
How and when did you meet?
We met at college in 2001 where we we both doing our Business Degrees. We got together 15 months later.
How old are you both?
We are both 25
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
He proposed in Majorca while we were on holiday - very romantic, on the beach as the sun was setting. A total surprise! I had no idea, & he'd been carrying the ring around with him all day!
Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?
We both went out. Myself & a group of about 25 of us hit Truro & Chris & his mates went to Falmouth for the night. The theme of my hen night was cowboys & indians.
How did your groom help with the wedding planning?
A little. He organised the mini bus home for some of the guests & wrote all of the stationary out - he learned calligraphy.
Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?
I used the website a lot. I got some great ideas.
Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
I bought some rose petals for the tables. I bought online. we also went to the London store & we bought cameras, car ribbon, favour bags - you name it!
Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it
I bought my dress from a local bridal store called Little Anne Maids. It was by designer Sallie Bee & was called Moonbeam. It was a lovely embroidered dress & made me feel like a princess! I had a gorgeous veil that had crystals on the ends & a gorgeous princess tiara!
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
I had 2. My cousin Amanda & Chris's sister Louisa. They wore gorgeous bright fushia pink dresses that we got from another local store called County Cream.
Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
Chris had his brother Andrew as best man & his friends Tom & nick for ushers. The ushers wore their own suits with matching ties, & Chris, Andrew, & the dads hired suits from Little Anne Maids.
Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
We had a religious ceremony
Where did you hold your ceremony?
Treleigh Church, Redruth, Cornwall
Where did you hold your reception?
Penventon Park Hotel, Redruth, Cornwall
Did you have any special wedding transport?
No, we used family! My uncle Jerry drove myself & dad to the church & then myself & Chris to the reception & my uncle Colin drove my mum & the bridesmaids. It was a lovely personal touch - highly recommended.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
We had 100 for the ceremony & wedding breakfast & another 150 for the evening.
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
Not really, we stuck to Pinks & Silver. The tables were named after Cornish castles.
Did you give your guests favours?
Yes, they each had 10 mini eggs in an organza favour bag - Fushia pink for ladies & silver for men.
Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
My florist was a local lady who is the best & has been doing family flowers for years, I had a posy of roses, ivory with the ends that were pink, my bridesmaids had ivory roses but a smaller posy. The buttonholes were all roses. My page boy had a pink gerbera to hold. We only had flowers on the top table & cake stand. These were bright pink gerberas. I also had a smaller posy made up to throw at the reception. I dried my bouquet in the shed & I now have a couple of the flowers in some vases around the house.
What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
We had a simple 3 course meal, soup or melon to start ,Roast Chicken or goats cheese for main & proffiterols or fruit salad for dessert. The hotel sorted everything.
What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?
We got our cake from Marks & Spencer. It was gorgeous & so much cheaper!! We had 3 tiers of traditional fruit cake with white icing & a simple piping decoration around the edge. They were supposed to have sat one on top of the other, but the icing went soft the night before as the hotel kept the room too hot, so one of my mums friends had to rush out & hire a cake stand!
Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
We had a disco for the evening.
Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
We had a gift list from Argos.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
We spent the first night at Penventon. We went to Dominican Republic for our honeymoon. We booked with Thomas Cook. Although we didn't specify, they gave us the honeymoon suite at the hotel & some champagne & fruit when we arrived.
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
Um....hard one! Has to be (you may think this strange!) before I left for the church, my dad was very nervous & my uncle had just arrived & his buttonhole wouldn't stay upright in his suit, so I was hacking the hole with his pen knife while he was holding my bouquet! Very funny! Another would have to be my best friend giving her reading in church. She nearly lost it, but pulled herself back together!
Did you experience any "nightmare" moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?
2 words - Interfering In-laws! On the day, the only thing that really went wrong was the cake thing
Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
Don't be pushed into anything you don't want. I was time & again & I really wish I had stood my ground. It ruined the whole experience for me. In my opinion, if people don't contribute financially, then they don't contribute at all.
