Blackpool Tower applies for wedding license

Bosses at Blackpool Tower have reportedly applied for a wedding license in response to growing demand from British couples to use the landmark as a wedding venue.

As one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations, Blackpool has served as a meeting place for many newlyweds through the years, dating back to 1894 when it was first opened.

Geoff Sage, Tower general manager told the Blackpool Gazette: "We have applied for the wedding license for Tower Top due to the level of inquiries.

"We have to undergo various checks and procedures yet and there is no guarantee of it being granted, but if it is we will have a waiting list as tall as the Tower itself!"

If the proposal is rejected, couples who are keen to hold their wedding ceremony at the Tower can exchange wedding vows at the landmark's Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests.

At present, a wedding license can be granted to any permanent structure with four walls, excluding tents.
