Lofty wedding venue for local DJ

A Lancashire DJ has decided to tie the knot in an unusual location, becoming the first woman to wed at the top of the Blackpool Tower.

Gemma Dee, the co-host of Rock FM's breakfast show, will hold the service on the impressive landmark and will wed her fiance Shaun.

The tower has never been used as a wedding venue in the past - giving their nuptials a unique twist.

Speaking to the Preston Citizen, Ms Dee said: "We always said we wanted our wedding to be something completely different but this is just something else, imagine the stories we can tell to our grandchildren."

She added that she was "proud to be making history" and that the idea had come from her co-host Adam Catterall.

The tower's general manager Geoff Sage said that he "couldn't wait" to host the structure's first ever legal ceremony.

Many couples opt for an unusual wedding venue with one couple in the US recently choosing a funeral parlour for their big day.
