Brits to go abroad for Christmas
19/11/2008
Montenegro and Serbia are fast becoming increasingly popular Christmas destinations among British holidaymakers, experts say.
Graham McKenzie, managing director of TravelMole, said that more people are looking for "somewhere different and relatively close to home" when planning a Christmas holiday abroad.
"I think Montenegro and Serbia are places that are remerging on to the tourism scene, again with relatively low cost flights and good air connections," he commented.
"Those [destinations] that are outside the euro zone, such as Egypt and Turkey - they'll continue to be popular."
According to a survey conducted by travel search engine Kayak.co.uk, despite the current financial climate, 60 per cent of Britons polled will not hold back on their winter travel plans and are instead opting for a Christmas break abroad.
Opodo reported that the number of people visiting Lima, Peru in recent times has risen by 98 per cent, making it the top destination for 2009.
