New York still attracting Christmas shoppers
28/11/2008
New York has long been a popular destination for Christmas shopping, with many Brits flying to the American city for a short winter break.
The latest Post Office Travel Services Christmas Shopping Guide indicates that shoppers can still save around 17 per cent across the board, even though the pound has dropped in value by over 20 per cent in the past year.
According to the figures, the best savings to be found are on high fashion items such as designer jeans and hooded sweatshirts, with cost cuts of up to 45 per cent.
Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said "the temptation of busting out of the gloom
and going and living it up in New York for a few days, might override other concerns", such as the environmental impact of flying to the US.
The current exchange rate with the American dollar, as of 24th November 2008, stands at £1 to $1.48679.
