More Brits marrying abroad, survey says
05/12/2008
An increasing number of British couples are opting to tie the knot abroad, according to new findings from Mintel.
A recent survey carried out by the market research company revealed that one in six couples are now choosing to jet off overseas for their big day.
Interestingly, weddings abroad are no longer limited to long-haul destinations, with European locations such as Italy and Cyprus rising in popularity.
Ian Davis from First Choice commented: "Cyprus is the most popular destination overall for us, with Greece and Italy becoming more popular over the Caribbean and Indian Ocean destinations."
"After all the hype surrounding Positano in Italy last summer, following Colleen and Wayne's wedding there, we have noticed Italy as a destination grow in popularity."
Figures show that the average cost of a wedding in the UK, including the venue, entertainment, honeymoon and bridal fashion is now reaching up to £25,000.
