Brits to be more creative with Christmas gifts
05/12/2008
This year, Brits are taking a more thoughtful approach to their Christmas shopping, choosing gifts for friends and family more carefully, in a bid to save money, it has been said.
The latest National Savings and Investments Quarterly Savings Survey found that , nearly two-thirds (65 per cent) plan to take a more resourceful approach to celebrating the festive season this year in order to cut costs.
Freelance consumer journalist Karen Kay observed: "People are taking a considered approach; they are being more careful about how they spend their money."
"That's a good thing because it is all too easy to run into a shop and buy a scented candle for your mum and a pair of socks for your uncle. Now if you are being a bit more thoughtful and clever with how you spend those pennies then you are going to be more imaginative."
However, according to research conducted by StyleBirmingham.com, 44 per cent of people say their Christmas present budget is the same as last year and 11 per cent claim they intend to spend more on gifts than last Christmas.
The survey also revealed that 82 per cent of people say the most important thing about giving a Christmas gift is the thought behind it.
