Couple wed on special bridal train

An Irish couple in County Kerry have become the first to charter a special train for their wedding.

Majella Foley, from Banteer, and Kieran Gallagher, a native of Donegal, hired Iarnró dÉ ireann's bridal train in Killarney for their nuptials.

The three-carriage train, which was decorated with pink and white bows, headed for St Fursey's Church in Banteer, within the Cork border.

It returned after the church service, taking the 200 guests to the Malton Hotel, Killarney's former Great Southern Hotel.

The couple got engaged in May 2008. Majella, who now lives in London, said of the adventure: "It was definitely worth it. It was brilliant."

Iarnró dÉ ireann's Andrew Roche said: "The day was a great success and the journey was easily slotted into the timetable."

The cost of the train and on board catering, however, has not been revealed.
