Simpsons celebrate 20th anniversary

Suspicions would certainly be aroused if a Hollywood celebrity looked the same after 20 years in the limelight - but not so if you're a member of America's most famous family.

The Simpsons haven't aged a day in two decades - if only any of the hundreds of celebrities who have appeared on the show could say the same!

To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie got the party started with a yellow-carpet special in Santa Monica, California - but the year-long festivities are set to begin in earnest in January. And to help mark the occasion, viewers will be given the chance to create their own version of the iconic opening sequence, design a new character and see matriarch Marge Simpson appear on the cover of Playboy.

"Marge is hot - big hair and all," confessed former guest star Robert Englund of Freddy Kreuger fame.

Star Trek actor George Takei said: "It is hilarious. The Playboy spread is the kind of thing that makes The Simpsons a perennial. It's going to live long and prosper."

"You know, it's really weird," said Simpsons creator Matt Groening. "I mean, I thought the show would be successful. But the fact that we're still standing here some 20 years later and talking about it is very peculiar. But very happy."
