29/10/2009
London will see its biggest ever co-ordinated Christmas lights switch-on next month with a series of star-studded events - including a record-breaking carol sing-along attempt.
Free concerts featuring a range of artists will be held in The City, Regent Street and Oxford Circus on November 3.
Celebrated Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will lead a world record-breaking Christmas Carol sing-along, joined by St Paul's Cathedral Choir in Leicester Square.
Christmas lights will be turned on at Oxford Circus by US actor Jim Carrey, while Bob Hoskins will do the honours at St Paul's Cathedral and Colin Firth at Regent Street.
The stars will later attend the world premier of their new movie A Christmas Carol - a Disney production in digital 3D based on the classic Dickens tale.
Disney said proceeds from the sale of premiere tickets will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. The studio is campaigning to raise £10 million towards the the charity's redevelopment appeal.
