Lottery winners celebrate windfall
11/11/2009
A married couple from Newport and a group of IT workers from Liverpool are celebrating after they won one half of the £91 million Euromillions jackpot.
Les and Samantha Scadding have been quiet about their £45.5 million windfall - a neighbour found out only when reporters knocked on her door.
However, the seven IT workers from BT's Royal House centre in Wood Street, reported for work as usual this week, unsuspecting of their good fortune, and ended up winning £6.5 million each.
The "magnificent seven" - who provide computer support for either Hewlett Packard or Manpower - were given a round of applause by their co-workers who decorated their door with a sign reading Lotto winner before letting in the media.
John Walsh, James Bennett, Sean Connor, Alex Parry, Emma Cartwright, Ceri Scullion, and Donna Rhodes, have spoken of their plans for the lottery win.
They are planning, among other things, shopping trips to New York, repayment of mortgages, university education, and buying a house.
A company source said: "Some of them went to work this morning not actually knowing anything about it. Someone from Camelot turned up and whisked them away."
A woman entering the BT centre said: "We are just really happy for them. The winners are celebrating but obviously not here."
