Elvis birthday celebration planned

Plans to celebrate what would have been Elvis Presley's 75th birthday in January include special concerts and a Cirque du Soleil tribute show.

The Elvis Presley Birthday Celebration 2010 will be held at his home in Graceland and other venues across Memphis, Tennessee between January 7 and 10 next year.

A special four-disc box set titled Elvis 75-Good Rockin' Night will be released by Sony Legacy on December 8, containing a collection of 100 songs by The King.

Hits featured on the retrospective package, which also has a booklet of rare photographs and a definitive essay, include Hound Dog and Burnin' Love, the JXL Radio Remix Edit of A Little less Conversation and songs from his movies, platinum albums and concert performances.

On January 5, a single disc edition of Elvis 75 will be released featuring key tracks from the box set.

Canadian entertainment company Cirque du Soleil will premiere Viva Elvis in December - a show described as an abstract biography of Elvis - at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Vincent Paterson, the choreographer, has combined the troupe's unique contemporary circus style into a visual event with Elvis music.
