Obamas to celebrate green Christmas

America's first family have factored in recycled ornaments, natural materials and a gingerbread White House to their celebrations this Christmas.

The gingerbread house, along with a marzipan replica of their dog Bo, is covered in white chocolate and weighs 390-pounds.

Christmas celebrations at the White House will be based on the theme "Reflect, Rejoice, Renew".

Michelle Obama, while looking over the holiday decorations, said she selected the theme as her family reflects on its blessings during the festive season, while enjoying the company of friends and family and renewing their commitments to each other and the causes they believe in.

"I wanted to continue that part of the tradition during our first holiday season at the White House," she said at an event.

Sticking with the theme, many of the ornaments used in decorating the landmark in Washington DC have reportedly been used in previous administrations.
