Veteran broadcaster's radio honour

BBC Radio 5 Live has announced plans for a live two-hour show celebrating the career of ebullient broadcasting star Stuart Hall.

Hall, who has been a regular in front of the camera and microphone for the last 50 years, is better known as the voice of the BBC's hit game show, It's A Knockout, where his enthusiastic presenting style fitted perfectly with the anarchic games during the show.

Despite his fruity, RP accent, Hall has become a much-loved broadcasting figure in the North West where he has appeared on regional programmes such as North West Tonight and Look North for many years.

The programme, to be aired on Thursday, will broadcast live from the City of Manchester stadium and will play host to a number of Hall's friends, including Coronation Street actor William Roache and Liverpool FC legend Graeme Souness.

Hall, who celebrates his 80th birthday on Christmas Day, is still a regular contributor to 5 Live.
