Britain's oldest dad has baby at 74
30/03/2010
A Lincolnshire man who has just welcomed a newborn son is believed to have become Britain's oldest father at 74.
Former HGV driver Gerry Burks was only days shy of his 75th birthday when wife Dawn, 41, gave birth to baby Ryan earlier this month.
The couple, from Louth, already have a six-year-old son, Daniel.
Mr Burks, who has three children from a previous marriage, reportedly credited his health and virility to bananas and "the love of a good woman".
He told the newspaper: "I am very proud and I think it's wonderful."
"People might say things about my age, but I look after myself. I'm young at heart, don't drink or smoke now... I eat lots of bananas and always have done - sometimes a couple a day."
