The wedding day bride

Let’s face it, a wedding is all about the bride! Apart from smiling all day long, what is your role in the big day?

Being a bride is one of the most exciting experiences you’ll ever have. As well as marrying the man you love, you get to look and feel fabulous. And, from flowers and wedding favours to colour schemes and cakes, you’ll influence every decision about how your wedding looks, sounds, tastes and even smells!

First things first

Before you rush to book venues and photographers, think about what you’d really like your wedding day to be like, and what kind of bride you are. Perhaps you’re super-organised, have been dreaming of your wedding since you were seven and dream of a big, opulent wedding. Or, perhaps your idea of a wonderful wedding day is an informal dinner with 20 of your closest friends and family. Your wedding day is the most personal day of your life and it’s important to do whatever makes you and your fiancé happy.

Set the wedding rules

The first step towards planning your wedding is to decide who is doing and paying for what and to set a date and a budget. Money conversations with family are never easy, but it’s wise to sit down and chat openly so you know where you are before you start planning. And, bear in mind that if your parents offer to pay for some of the wedding, they really should have a say in the day as well.

The organised bride

However you decide to celebrate your wedding, organisation is key and, whether you’re planning a big day celebration for 200 or a barbecue for 30, your key role is to know what you want and stay organised. Here’s how…

  • Get computer savvy! Set up spreadsheets detailing your budget, guest list and bookings so you know what you’re spending, who’s going to be there, and what’s arranged.
  • Make sure everyone around you is organised! Bridesmaids, family and ushers are all there to help, as is your fiancé! Give them all a few tasks to help you in the run up to the day.
  • Plan in advance. Give yourself a task to complete every week – that way you’re always on top of things and can avoid last minute stress. No bride wants to be making favours the night before her wedding.
  • Only plan what you want, what you can afford and what you have time to do. Some of the most stylish weddings are planned in very little time and with a small budget. Stress and debt are to be avoided!
