Stuck for ideas?

Don’t fancy the idea of lazing on a beach or following the herd? Take a look at some honeymoons with a difference.

Romantic honeymoons close to home

What could be more unique than not going abroad on your honeymoon? Instead of spending money on flying half way around the world, enjoy total luxury in the UK. Head to a Scottish castle for a week or two of four-poster beds and roaring log fires, or relax in an idyllic Cornish cottage.

Adrenaline rush

If you both like a little excitement, opt for a more active honeymoon. This could involve scuba diving, white water rafting, snowmobiling, bungee jumping, skydiving or rock climbing. You could have a cosy skiing honeymoon, or go kayaking in the South Seas. The key to the success of this kind of honeymoon is choosing an activity that you both enjoy to the same extent.

Go wild

Getting up close to animals in the wild can be one of the most exhilarating experiences you can have. South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania are best for seeing the classic Big Five (elephant, rhino, leopard, lion and buffalo), while Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Australia offer smaller exotic animals in tropical environments. Consider combining your safari with a few days of relaxation -- safaris can be tiring, particularly if you’re up at the crack of dawn every morning, so think about including a few days on a beach afterwards.

Keep it simple

Not everyone wants to stay in a five-star hotel on their honeymoon. Why not pack your rucksack, passports and a few maps and go backpacking? The world is your oyster and, if you keep your travel details fairly flexible, you can go wherever you want for as long as you like. You can also spend the money you save on accommodation on travelling that little bit further -- some couples even choose to go on a budget round-the-world adventure.
