What’s the wedding paperwork?
- Residency Wedding preparations take just one working day.
- Proof of ID You will need your birth certificates and your passports.
- Divorced You must produce original evidence that any previous marriages have been dissolved (Decree Absolute).
- Widowed You will be required to produce the death certificate of your former spouse.
- Age restrictions Women must be 16 and men 18. Everyone under 21 must have consent from their father (or mother if their father is deceased).
How do I obtain a marriage licence?
You must both attend the Register Office with the original copies of all the necessary documents, to apply for your marriage licence, which will be issued within one working day (for addresses, see Where can I find further information?). The licence is valid for 28 days.
