Tips and ideas to make getting married abroad beautiful
Beautiful blooms
Flowers are a must for every wedding day, even if you have nothing more than a simple, elegant posy. If you're getting married abroad, you'll probably decide to choose a florist local to the area, but also check if flowers are included in your wedding package. If this is the case, be sure to ask your wedding co-ordinator whether you can see photographs of flowers that have been created for other weddings, and ask what your options are when it comes to choosing designs.
It's also a great idea to ask to meet with the florist when you arrive at your destination. These things can be difficult to organise from afar, but the main thing is to make sure that you like the flowers and designs available. Keep an open mind, remembering that flowers themselves are different in warmer climates so you might have more of a tropical look.
If you have your heart set on a particular type of flower that isn't available at your destination, or you don't like the fresh flowers that are available, consider choosing artificial flowers. Silk flowers can look incredibly realistic and you can easily transport a bouquet with you. You'll even be able to keep it afterwards.
Table decorations
If you want to decorate your own tables, the easiest thing to do is to pack a few essentials in your suitcase. The chances of finding traditional decorations when you get to your destination are slim, and you don't want to be spending time combing the shops. Think of things that are easy to pack and not too heavy. Metallic confetti is easy to take and lovely for scattering over your tablecloths. If you'd like to give favours, pack some sachet bags or create your own favour boxes. These will flat pack so that you can assemble them when you arrive. When it comes to filling them, chocolate isn't ideal as it's likely to melt, so opt for sweets or sugared almonds.
Finally, don't forget to pack some place cards so your guests know where to sit, and a guest book so they can all write you a message.
Photography and videos
Photographers and videographers can be booked either through your tour operator or hotel and will almost certainly be an optional extra, but don't cut costs here. It is your big day and it is important to have a record to show your friends and family who could not be with you. You must also be realistic about the quality you expect from your photographs and video -- although they will be produced to the highest possible standards, in many circumstances the photographers simply will not have the equipment or facilities that you would expect in the UK.
Wedding music
At most hotels it is possible for you to have your own choice of music played at your wedding. Optional extras, such as a steel band, are usually available for an extra fee.
