The Gift Of Honeymoon Travel
Packing up your life and jetting around the world after you get married? Why not put that on your wedding gift list? Editor Belinda Hanks investigates the rise of the Honeymoon Gift List.
Our Gift List paid for the trip of a lifetime
A balloon ride over the Serengeti, a Buddhist monk massage in Thailand and cocktails on Bourbon Street in New Orleans don't have much in common with toast racks, bed linen or a new set of crockery. But then Chris and Sam Stirling's entire honeymoon doesn't have very much in common with the traditional two week hotel honeymoon.
Chris, 32 and a hospital manager, and Sam, 31, a physiotherapist, felt that two weeks was not going to be long enough and decided that 18 months’ travelling around the world was what they wanted from a honeymoon. Giving up their jobs and selling their flat in London was all part of the preparation for married life. Instead of asking for money, they compiled a detailed list of all the adventures they wanted to experience on their round-the-world trip.
And that's exactly what they got. Each friend or family member paid for a different day, night or activity on their holiday of a lifetime. Including a Serengeti Safari from Julia and Christmas Eve in Emerson from Tom and Irene and an Elephant ride from Clare.Other friends opted for a limosuine in Las Vegas or essentials for the trip.
