Valentine’s Day: the complete confetti guide
Valentine’s Day is a great excuse for gifts and celebrations. But where did the romance all start?
Every February 14, across the UK, loved ones exchange sweets, chocolates, flowers and gifts -- all in the name of St. Valentine.
As legend has it, Valentine was a priest in 3rd-century Rome. When the Emperor decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. How romantic is that?!
It's thought that Valentine sent the first 'valentine' to himself, after falling in love with his jailor’s daughter, who used to visit him during his imprisonment. He signed his missive to his sweetheart: ‘From your Valentine’. Aaaah.
With inspiration like that, it's no wonder we celebrate the day with tokens of love and affection! Here we've got loads of great suggestions for Valentine's Day to make you the most popular partners since the days of ancient Rome!
