And for vegans...

Party food ideas that go one step beyond the vegetarian

A few years ago, serving up a vegetarian wedding meal would have been considered a little outlandish, while a vegan one would have been a brave step indeed. Today, it’s not so unusual to cater for vegans, who don’t eat any animal products at all.

An increasing number of people are choosing a vegan/vegetarian diet. This has had a domino effect in that even those not changing their diet need to consider the vegetarians and vegans among their wedding guests.

Dietary choices are an important part of a person’s life and partners are likely to share those choices or at least be sympathetic to them. As a result there is an-ever increasing number of couples who consider meat-free weddings, wanting their food to reflect their own tastes.

Many people, it has to be said, can’t even conceive what a vegan diet comprises, but the fact is that vegans can and do enjoy a wide range of foods. They’re also often more willing to experiment and are generally pretty adventurous (mainly because they have to be!). If you can find a caterer who offers you a varied and imaginative vegan menu there should be enough choice to tempt even the meat eaters.

The greatest reward of all, of course, is when the guests really enjoy vegan food. It’s wonderful to be thanked afterwards, not only by the veggies present but also by confirmed meat eaters.

More important than any other consideration though, is that those who have chosen a vegan diet as a way of life are comfortably able to share this with their family and friends. It is, after all, a wonderful opportunity to proudly say to people that this is the food that you enjoy. You never know, your wedding might be the occasion where a guest grappling with yet another health scare/suspected food intolerance might finally discover that there is another way.
