Cocktail party

Like an ‘at home’ invitation, a cocktail party invitation indicates that no formal dinner will be served, although it is usual to serve canapés or even a light buffet. Cocktail parties are usually held earlier in the evening and it can be inconvenient for guests not to know whether food will be served or not. Stating 'cocktail party' on the invitation is an excellent way to convey to your guests that they should make other dinner plans.

An invitation to a cocktail party could say:

Laura and Peter Cockroft

Invite you for cocktails
