Organising your office Christmas party

Follow our tips and make sure everyone has a night to remember

Invitations

Once your party is planned, you've set the date, booked the venue and know whom you're going to invite, you need to invite them. Big parties demand a formal invitation, even if it's not the classic engraved kind, a physical invitation with all the information on goes a long way. Adding an RSVP date will help you enormously when it comes to confirming numbers with the venue. Invitations can be personalised or you could go to town with the confetti create your own range of invitation cards and trimmings -- these are sure to get you noticed at work! An all staff email will help to remind colleagues that they need to RSVP and it doesn't hurt to put an invitation and reminder up on the staff noticeboard.

Don't forget to include the following:

Why you're throwing a party:  It's Christmas !

When:  Day and date of the party.

Where:  Name and address of the venue plus directions on how to get there.

What time:  Start and finish times.

Who's invited?  Is it just staff or clients and partners too?

What to wear:  Is there a dress code? Is it fancy dress or black tie or just no trainers?

Dietary requirements:  How many are vegetarian or vegan etc?

RSVP:  Give a date by which you need to know how many are coming.

Entertainment

Keeping people entertained at an office Christmas party can be crucial to its success, so think carefully about this one. If you're hiring out a hotel or restaurant for a large number of people, then booking a band or a DJ is a very good idea. A dance will get everyone in the mood and you might even see your usually serious boss letting his/ her hair down for a change. Apart from music, it's good idea to organise another form of entertainment, whether you go for a magician, a caricaturist or a look-alike.

If your budget is tight why not make your own entertainment by holding a raffle or putting on a pub style trivia quiz? You could work in a mixture of general knowledge questions and company history to really keep them on their toes. Better still confetti's Christmas trivia will save the effort of thinking up all those questions!

You'll find hundreds of entertainers in the confetti supplier directory.
