We met in the last year of college and then ended up both going to the same university.
We are both 24 years old.
We went to Dubai on holiday last August and decided to go shopping around the Gold Suok. This is every girl’s dream as it is just shop after shop full of diamonds! The first shop we went in, I saw my diamond, not that I thought, at that point, that I was going to get one. After shopping we went back to the hotel and David said he wanted to marry me next year and would I like the ring? YES! On the last day of our holiday we bought the ring!
David went to Budapest where he went shooting, go-karting and went out for plenty of drinking. I was lucky enough to have two. The first was my official hen night, 17 of us stayed in the Novotel in Leeds and had a brilliant night. All 17 of us had a strict dress code blue tops and black trousers, as blue was the colour theme for my wedding. When we arrived at the hotel all the girls received goody bags with badges, vodka, sweets and loads more. We then went for a meal at an Italian where my friend Lisa had bought all the decorations for the tables. It looked fantastic, all decorated in blue to match the theme of the wedding once again. We then went to the Comedy Club which was really good. After the three acts at the Comedy Club it turned into a night club which is where we danced for the rest of the night!
David was very good and knew that I had most things under control, however if I needed any help or advice, David was there for me.
Confetti was invaluable from the start, I used the planner on the internet, searching for dresses and shoes and looked at other peoples’ weddings as that’s the best place to get ideas!
Yes we did.
I bought all my favours, sweets such as flying saucers, love hearts, mr and mrs rock and alphabet letters were put in vases for guests to nibble on before the wedding breakfast. I also bought blue feathers and put them in the wine glasses on the tables. I bought blue chiffon ribbon to tie in bows around the napkins and bubbles for the tables. Also wax seals which I used on the invitations. And lastly, I bought gifts for the bridesmaids.
My dress was from Heavenly Angels in Stokesly. It was made by Romantica of Devon and was called Giselle. It was white with very intricate beading; I also had a cathedral-length veil.
I had two bridesmaids, they were Susan and Anna who are both sisters and have been my best friends since I was 5 yrs old. They wore beautiful blue dresses from Caroline Castigliano. The dresses also had small trains at the back which complemented my dress as well.
David chose his friend of 15 years, Matthew, to be his best man. He and David had been at school right the way through to university together. He also chose Paul, a friend from home, to be his usher and his cousin Richard as his groomsman. They all wore grey morning suits which were hired from Suits You. They had white shirts and waistcoats with a blue cravat.
We had a religious ceremony.
At St Mary’s Church, Moorsholm.
At Gisborough Hall, Guisborough.
We had two wedding cars. To take the bridesmaids to the church we had a white Mercedes and for my dad and I we had a vintage 1930s car, it was brilliant as it was easy to get in and out of with my dress!
We had 75 guests during the day and a further 100 during the evening.
Yes the reception colour theme was blue and white.
The table linen was white; the favours were blue, blue feathers in the glasses, blue ribbon around the napkins and blue sparkling heart confetti sprinkled around the tables.
Yes boxes from Confetti and the chocolates inside were made by David’s sister Elaine. Everyone loved them!
My bridesmaids and I all had the same bouquets, except that theirs were slightly smaller. I had white roses with shoots of bear grass coming out between the roses with green leaves covering the sides of the bouquets.
We used Gisborough Hall’s catering. To start we had fanned melon with summer fruits. For our main course we had breast of chicken wrapped in Parma ham stuffed with wild mushrooms and herbs, served with a selection of vegetables and for dessert we had summer fruits pudding with clotted cream. We then had coffees and petit fours.
We had a white and milk chocolate cake. The outside was all white chocolate with white chocolate shavings and inside was milk chocolate sponge.
Yes we had a DJ, to whom we gave a play list beforehand.
Yes we had a gift list at Debenhams.
We spent out first night at Gisborough Hall in the Fountain Suite. It was amazing; there was a bedroom with, of course, a four poster bed, a drawing room and two bathrooms! We jetted off the next day on our honeymoon. We went to Bali for a week and stayed at Melia Bali which was amazing. We next went to Sydney in Australia where we stayed at the Shangri-La where our room had views over the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Next we went to Ayres Rock where we stayed at the Lost Camel. The rock was amazing and we watched the sun set over it. And lastly we went to Cairns where we went to the barrier reef and I cuddled a koala!
The speeches were fantastic, all three were funny and all three made me cry!
Two days before the wedding David went to pick up all the suits from Suits You and one suit was missing - yes it was the groom’s! However, after initial panic, they agreed to deliver it the next day, which they did!
I would do nothing differently, just relax and enjoy your day. Make sure you have a video done as it brings the day back to life and you see lots of things that went on during the day that you never knew about.
