My boyfriend Phil and I had been going out for six months when I went away on holiday to Scandinavia for a month. I'd been away for two days when he called me with a 'surprise' but told me I wasn't going to find out what it was until I came back. Anyway, I bugged him and bugged him and eventually, he relented. So, with me in a hotel room in Coventry (on my way to Norway) he phoned me from a nightclub toilet in Hexham to tell me he thought we should get engaged! I spent the next three and a half weeks manically waiting to go home to see him again and when we finally met..... he gave me the ring in a service station car park! And they say romance is dead.
