Nicky and Neill

On 20 September 2003 I was cooking Neill a meal, as it was our year anniversary. It was the first evening we had stayed in on a long while and we had the house to ourselves that evening. The sun was gleaming outside while I was standing marinating steaks and Neill was watching the TV when he asked me would I like to go for a game of golf. By this stage it was around 6.30 pm and I thought what the heck, as I love golf.

I went up and got changed and headed down to the club. Neill suggested playing the back nine holes instead of the first.
We were walking around the course as normal, taking me about 10 shots to get to the green. It was a beautiful warm evening and we were the only ones on the course at that time. We got to the fifteenth hole, which overlooks Donaghadee Bay and the golf course. The hole was a par five, which is situated on a hill and as you can imagine took me a while to get to the top as I was only learning how to play at this stage.

When I eventually made it to the top, Neill asked me to hole a putt, as I hadn't all night. It took me about six putts to get anywhere near the hole, and on the seventh try it eventually dropped into the hole. As I looked down to pick up my ball, there was a little black box sitting in the hole. Neill got down on one knee, opened the box and proposed.

It was a total surprise, as I had no idea it was going to happen. It was the most romantic proposal I could have ever asked for. I am almost crying as I am writing this. The sun had just gone down and everywhere around us was so peaceful. I will never forget his proposal to the day I die and I can't wait to tell our children.
