We booked it ourselves.
No, he didn't because I was keen to know what to pack!
We got married on Saturday 26th August 2006 and left to go on honeymoon on Monday 28th August 2006.
We went to Thailand. We spent 4 days in Bangkok and then went on to Ko Samui for the remaining 10 days.
It was a much needed 2 weeks!
It cost around £3,000 and it was a honeymoon very much to our own specification. We booked the flights ourselves and took a guide book along and just went wherever we fancied!
We started off in the hustle and bustle of Bangkok before jetting off to idyllic Ko Samui for lots of relaxation.
In Bangkok we did lots of sightseeing and eating as I no longer had a strict wedding diet to keep to! We also did a lot of shopping as Bangkok is full of bargains. We even went to Bangkok's red light district which is actually a tourist attraction and an experience to say the least! We generally took the time to sample the Thai way of life. Ko Samui was very much a contrast. This was a paradise island and we spent the majority of it relaxing in our 5 star resort and taking full advantage of it's spa, private pool and beach! We also did a little sightseeing and shopping and we also got a chance to do some watersports - which was fantastic because the water was so clear and warm!
A gorgeous Thai breakfast followed by a bit of sighseeing, shopping or relaxing. Dinner would either be in one of the lovely local restaurants or on the beach!
We got on brilliantly! It was so wonderful to spend time together just the two of us without any wedding stress or chaos! It made us appreciate being married and what it really meant to us.
So many! My highlight was having dinner on the world's highest restaurant in Bangkok. It was amazingly beautiful and a once in a lifetime experience. The views were stunning! Also seeing the temples were amazing and meeting the lovely Thai people who were so friendly!
Not really. The only bad bits were occasionally seeing the more impoverished areas and sometimes the smell was quite a bit to handle but it really was all part of the experience! The only other thing was going to an elephant trekking place called Island Safari. Do not go there as we saw some appalling levels of cruelty.
Relax! You've earned it after planning a wedding! Take the time to enjoy being together and appreciating what it means to be married. Also, don't always be tempted to book tours while you're away. It's often just as easy - and cheaper - to get a taxi or bus and make your own way to the tourist attractions. You can work to your own time tables too! In Thailand, make sure taxis have a meter and they turn them on! Also make sure you don't drink tap water. Make sure you have all your jabs too!
Definitely go to all of the tourist attractions as some of them are amazing! Give all of the food a try too because even though it might look odd at times, it tastes wonderful! Just enjoy it and make sure you take lots of pictures because the memories will stay with you forever!
