| How do I change my name by deed poll? In order to change your name by deed poll you will need to complete the application form online, then send through to the solicitor a copy of your birth certificate, passport or in the case of ladies, then a marriage certificate is also acceptable. We will also require payment of £29.99 which will be processed through our online system. What documents do I need to provide? Copy of passport. Copy of birth certificate. Copy of marriage certificate (ladies only). Parental authorisation if the child is under 18 years. Do they have to be the originals? No, please do not send the original documents, a photocopy is perfectly acceptable. Where do I send the documents? All documents need to be sent the following address: RD Edwards, Morgan and James 21 Mansell Street Swansea SA1 5SG Or fax them on 01792 411601 How much is it? Single application deed polls are £29.99, if you are changing the name of another member of your family at the same time then each additional application is £25. How long does it take to get the deed poll certificate processed? Once all the documents have been received the certificate should be with you within 5-7 days, however overseas address’s will take longer. How is the document sent, by first class or recorded delivery? The document is sent by first class. Within what sort of time frame do I have to advise people of my new name change? You are legally bound to advise official bodies of your name change as soon as you have the certificate, however there is no deadline date that you have to have this done by. Who do I need to advise? You will need to apply online as normal for anyone in your family wishing to change their name. However for children you will need to provide written authorisation to confirm that you will allow your children to change their names. I require to change my name to a double-barrelled name, do I need to do this by deed poll? Yes you do, please apply as normal on the online ordering system. I would like to keep my maiden name and rather than have a double barrelled surname, can I use my maiden name as an additional middle name? Does this have to done by deed poll? Yes it does, please apply as normal online. Can I use numbers in my new name? No you are only allowed to use letters in your name. Can I change my name to a single name such as ‘Spike’ Yes you can. |
