Birthday tribute for Barbara Windsor

Bubbly actress Barbara Windsor has had an early 70th birthday celebration in the form of a special tribute concert at the Hackney Empire.

The former Carry On star took to the stage at the well-known London venue to perform a number of hits from classic West End musicals as part of a Radio 2 tribute show.

Eastenders actress Barbara donned a fetching gold trouser suit for the occasion, and belted out songs from Oliver and Stop The World, I Want To Get Off.

She also sang hits from Anthony Newley's Oh! What a Lovely War, the Broadway play for which she received a Tony nomination back in 1965.

Barbara, who turns 70 on August 6th, was joined by celebrity pals Shane Richie and Bradley Walsh for the glitzy affair.

A BBC spokesperson told the Daily Express: "The BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Roderick Dunk, with special guests Aimee Atkinson, June Brown, Roy Hudd, Shane Richie, Bradley Walsh and Capital Voices."

"It is a musical celebration for [Barbara's] 70th birthday where she looks back at her career and the best of British musical theatre."

The concert will be aired on BBC Radio 2 on August 3rd.
