Q.

I need to send all my choices to the priest asap so he can confirm they are alright (and so i can get on a make my order of services!) and I thought i’d done my bidding prayers and went over them over with my nan and she was like oh they’re not very you – so she has worked on them and she has made them quite religious (well each one mentions God (the first one starts – Almighty God)) – now I know we are getting married in a church and that is really important to us but the whole day is quite laid back and floaty like – for eg – we are having Give me joy in my heart (sing hossana) and Lord of the dance for our hymns both quite fun songs and hoping to have “The Art of Marriage” as one of our readings. And the bidding prayers we had before were quite relaxed but about love etc and like i said my nan’s are just full on and we’re not like that! So she is going to have another think! I get what she was saying about them not being very us – I did steal them from the book the priest gave us to look through or other order of services!!

So I wanted to see if any of you have done these or had any ideas! Ideally i’d like them to be about us (the bride and groom) then our families, then everyone whose come and then those who have past away and also those who just can’t be there. but my brain just won’t work and other’s i’ve seen online have been really religious too!!

I just looked at ours and although they mention us by name they do mention God and Jesus. Probably because we are Christian! (our intercessions start “Hello God, It’s me again. A and S have asked me to have word with you….” *written and spoken by a friend of mine)
Why don’t you post what your Nan has written and I’ll have a go at changing a bit for you?

Thanks!! I think really it’s the first one that i’m not keen on ( i like what it’s saying just not the way it says it – if that makes sense!)-the others are alright actually reading them through again. I’ve left out the Lord hear us and the response bit.

1)Almighty God, hear our prayers for K and D who came before this altar today to be
united in the sacrament of marriage, give them your blessing to strenghen their love and
help for each other.

2) We ask God’s blessing on the families whose love and care has brought Kate and Dan
to this happy day. May their families and friends continue to give them their loving
care and support through the years ahead.

3) We pray for the members of Kate and Dan’s families who cannot be with us today, but
will be with us in spirit. May God bless them always.

I like how yours started that would bring a smile to my face if i was at wedding and heard that.

We pray for Kate and Dan on their wedding day, that the vows they have made to one another today will remain in their hearts for ever, and that they grow in Your love. After the excitement of today, Kate and Dan begin the work of building a marriage that will stand, not by the authority of the state or the words of the minister, but by the power of their love, and the strength of their faith in each other and in You. We ask that you continue to live within Kate and Dan’s marriage, and bring Your peace into their lives everyday.

2) We ask God’s blessing on the families whose love and care has brought Kate and Dan to this happy day. May their families and friends continue to give them their loving care and support through the years ahead We give You thanks Lord for those who have brought Kate and Dan to this day. For the lives they have lived, the families they have belonged to, for the influences that have shaped their characters. As Kate and Dan’s family and friends, we pray for Your blessing on them today and always, and as we support them in their marriage, we pray that we too, may feel inspired by this day and supported by Your love and care in our own familes.
3) We pray for the members of Kate and Dan’s families who cannot be with us today, but will be with us in spirit. May God bless them always. We pray for all those people who mean so much to Kate and Dan, but who cannot be here today. In particular we remember (names) who are both here in the hearts of this couple. We ask that both may feel the peace of your presence, and the warmth of your love, now and always.
Sorry, the formatting went a bit bonkers. Any use?

They are much more what we are after – as they are still about God but the focus is more on our families and friends and acknowledging them. I really like the last one – it really feels like it is from the heart which is what we want! Thank you so much- that was really kind to do that.
