Q.

We are hoping to have a non alcoholic wedding day.  Our wedding breakfast is at the town hall and we have requested that no alcohol is served at the bar.  What is the best way to deal with this?  Do you think we need to warn people beforehand?  What sort of alternative drinks do you suggest?

A.

I don’t think it would be necessary to inform your guests in advance. However, if you are sending out an information pack you may want to include it by saying something like – ‘Please note the reception venue does not have a license to serve alcohol, we hope you enjoy the alternative refreshments we have chosen for you’.

There are lots of wonderful alternatives to alcohol, one of my favourites is sparkling elderflower presse. With a look of champagne and a taste which is just as good, I’m sure you guests will be pleasantly surprised. You can buy it in most supermarkets.

You might want to include some alcohol free beer and the usual colas and fruit juices. For a special treat why not ask your caterer whether they could make up some non-alcoholic cocktails or mocktails as they are known?

Here are a few you might like to practice before the big day!
