Q.

Our perfect ceremony venue and perfect reception venue are 80 miles apart, meaning about a 2 hour journey between the two. Is this just too much to expect guests to travel so far? We plan on transporting most guests between the venues, but am concerned about the travel time before booking anything.

A.

My instinctive feeling is that yes this is a little too far, especially taking into consideration any traffic hold ups that might put even more time on such a long journey. If  you are planning to transport your guests between venues then this does help the situation and you could have a bit of a Champagne party on the coach en route to the reception but ideally, your reception venue should be within a 20 minutes drive of your ceremony venue. If you can’t transport all your guests or you think they might have problems getting back or finding somewhere to stay overnight then you should look for either a different ceremony venue or reception venue, knowing that at least one of your venues is perfect.
