Q.

I was wondering what wedding dress would be best for my body type. I am 5’8 and weigh about 120 lbs. I have a small bust and slim hips. I want a dress that will give me the appearance of having curves. What fabric, necklines, and waist would be best?  I heard a lot of ruffles is bad for my body type is this true?

A.

You’re very similar in shape to me! An A-line gown with a wide neck, off the shoulder or strapless top will be the most flattering for you. Avoid anything too low-cut and make more of your slim shoulders and hips by wearing a gown that gives the illusion of wider lines at these points (wide neck line and A line skirt) while showing off your tiny waist with either a corsetted bodice or a slinky, sheer fabric dress in an elegant 1930s style. The ruffles that you mention are another way of enhancing a small bust – the ruffled fabric will give the illusion of volume there and can look very pretty.  I highly recommend you check out A Wedding Dress for Every Body Shape and Wedding Dress Skirt Shapes – What’s Best For You? as they’re both full of great tips.  Hope that helps! x
