GLAM, GLAM, GLAM: State Of Grace

Just one glance at what’s being worn at today’s major events – the Oscars, Sex in the City premiere and London Fashion Week – highlights the undying appeal of style from the 1920s to the 1950s.

With the pick of any label they could possible desire the SATC ladies opted for a remarkably high percentage of  vintage.

HAIR TODAY: HOW TO ACHIEVE THE VINTAGE LOOK

So my first word of advice is a gal can never go wrong with some old school Hollywood glamour, it’s just deciding which aspects to take with you down the aisle.

Old School red carpet glamour is comprised of so many details but you might take inspiration from some of the following:

  • Strapless sweetheart and plunging necklines
  • One shoulder and asymmetry
  • Grecian draping
  • Couture bias cuts and fishtails
  • Lots of lace and visible bras, garters, corsets and other classic undergarments
  • Diaphanous fabrics, ruffles, layers and tulle (net) for volume
  • Lots of nudes, champagnes, peaches and soft metallic colours

Be a silver screen siren: State Of Grace suggests dark berry red lips and false lashes are just the thing

TOP TIP

Remember this look can be achieved just as dramatically using accessories, jewellery, hair and make-up. A chic 'hatlette' with veil, a sequined lace bolero, a marabou feather cape, a 1950s rhinestone tennis bracelet, a 1930s finger wave, some dark berry red lips and false lashes are just a few examples of how to ensure you look and feel the silver screen siren on your special day.

Brilliant! Just what I needed as this is the kind of overall feel we want for our wedding but I was struggling on ideas for the dress as I have the image in my head but it's hard to translate to the shop assistants and I can't put it on paper as I cannot draw to save my life but thank you for this and all the technical terms I was looking for! :-D Thumbs up! Great article! Anymore on this kind of theme or Old Hollywood Glamour for the whole wedding would be fab! I'm also training as an event manager and wedding planner so will be definitely suggesting your site for business to my clients and will be using you for research and my own wedding!
