Blue or Blush? The Best Coloured Wedding Gowns For Fall 2013

Written by    Last updated: November 6, 2012

White may be right for most brides, but then there are those who like to make an elegant break with tradition. Many trend-setting designers include a few colour options in their newest collections – blush, pale blue, gold, silver and more! With a nod to tradition, the designers keep the colours delicate, soft and feminine – just as a bride should be!

Blue

Alfred Angelo was the king of colour at the New York Bridal Market in October, showing his absolutely stunning collection of blue bridal gowns inspired by Disney’s Cinderella. Lazaro, bottom left, impressed everyone with the blue gown overlayed with stunning lace. Pale blue, like pale pink, is an ultimately feminine colour, and used in full layered gowns it gives a true “fairytale princess” impression.

Blush

Often thought of as the perfect colour for any bride whose skin tone doesn’t suit white or ivory, blush always makes an appearance at top bridal fashion shows. Ultimately flattering, feminine, and especially suited to romantic full-skirted gowns, it was showed off by several designers.

Silver

Not just for the brave bride, silver comes in hues that are soft with a delicate metallic sheen – they are a gorgeous alternative to ivory, and guaranteed to make the lucky bride the talk of the town. Silver works on various types of gowns, from fitted, to full, to short, and makes a real statement with the right accessories.

One of a kind

There are always a few designers who flirt with the unusual, working in colours which some may say would be more suitable for bridesmaids. It doesn’t have to be the case! Bridal gows in hues of gold and mint make a bold choice for a bride who wants to wear a traditional-looking gown in a non-traditional colour.

Claire Pettibone

An absolute standout of the New York Bridal Market was Claire Pettibone – she unvelied a collection unlike any other. Keeping most of her gowns in traditional white or ivory, she used colour for enhancement and embellishment, creating an ultimate feminine look. Her brides don’t just count on their bouquet to add a touch of colour – they wear it like an accessory on their gowns.
