Emma's answers to Crying

Question

I am feeling reasonably calm about my wedding in six weeks, but I'm worried that I'm going to cry in the church. I don't want to spoil the photos by having red and puffy eyes. How can I keep this under control!

Answer

This is perfectly normal and it really doesn't matter if the odd tear falls - you won't get puffy eyes and you're allowed to be emotional!

If thinking of your vows makes you feel emotional now, have a good cry before the big day arrives. A lot of ministers recommend having a cry in the in the days running up to the wedding if you feel emotional, and that means you're less likely to cry on the day itself. It's worth remembering too that if you look upwards your tear ducts won't work and you won't be able to cry. Don't walk the length of the aisle looking at the ceiling but do try it if you feel you might blub as you are saying your vows as it should help.
