We are having a civil ceremony followed by an afternoon reception in a registered venue nearby. Is it usual for the bride to be walked into the ceremony room for a civil ceremony by either her father or some other relative?

Yes it is possible for you to be escorted up to the front of the register office. You might like to check the room first to make sure there is enough space and do remember to inform the registrar of your intentions.
