Emma's answers to Accommodating different religions

Question

My fiance and his family are catholic and mine are Church of England. He wants to have a full mass with communion, but my family won't take communion and won't understand a lot of the service. My fiance is more religious than me, so I do want him to be happy, but I don't want my family to feel excluded. What should I do?

Answer

This really is something you should be able to discuss with the priest who is marrying you. He will be able to allay any fears you have.

Unless they are planning on doing full mass in Latin, everyone is going to be able to understand what is being said, so your family won't feel excluded. How about choosing some hymns that you know your family will enjoy, or asking your fiance if he minds not having a full mass?
