Emma's answers to Have I chosen the right bridesmaids?
Question
I chose my bridesmaids at the time of my engagment. One friend I trust with my life but recently she has started to change her lifestyle and I now find we hardly have anything in common and have nothing to talk about. My other friend disapproves of my fiance. I wish I hadn't chosen them as bridesmaids but can I ask them to step down?
Answer
The good news is, your friends are probably feeling exactly the same way but are worried about letting you down. Let them know as soon as possible. Leaving it to the last minute or just avoiding the subject and hoping the situation will go away will only make matters worse.
Explain that while you very much want them at your wedding, your original plans have changed and you have decided not to have bridesmaids as such.
Unfortunately, there's no easy way of telling your friends that you've changed your mind. If you still feel uncomfortable then the best solution is to try to involve them in other ways such as asking them to do a reading at the ceremony, or to help with organising your hen night.
