Emma's answers to Mothers in hats
Question
My mother and my future mother-in-law both hate hats and decided that they wouldn't wear a hat with their outfits on the wedding day, which was fine with me. However, my mum has now decided that she wants to wear a hat, and has promptly bought one! Should both the mothers wear hats/not wear hats, or can one wear one and not the other? My future mother in law is not keen on wearing one at all!
Answer
It's basically a personal choice. I would make sure your mother in law knows that your mother will be wearing a hat, and leave it up to her to decide whether she would like to wear one or not.
You could suggest that she try something like a fascinator which is more of a hair 'decoration' - perhaps feathers on a comb for example. These are much lighter than wearing a hat, and very elegant.
