I originally chose a dress costing £700, and have just seen the dress of my dreams, costing £1300. My parents want to stick to an inexpensive reception, so should I really be spending this much on a dress? I've just got a new job so I can afford it.

I think that if you can afford it and it's the dress of your dreams, you should go for it. It's your wedding and your money! Make sure you can definitely afford it, and don't keep it a secret from your family.
