Emma's answers to Marrying at home
Question
Is it cheaper to get married from home and have the reception there, or hire out a hotel and let somebody else take the strain?
Answer
Unfortunately, unless you live in Scotland or one of the countries abroad where this is possible, it's not legally recongised for you to marry at home unless your home is a registered civil venue or you have a special license (this would apply, for example, if you were bed-ridden).
You could have a civil ceremony and then have your reception at home, or even have a civil ceremony at some point before your wedding day, and then have a humanist ceremony at home (humanist ceremonies are not legally binding so you would need to have a civil ceremony some time beforehand).
