Emma's answers to Role of the groom's father

Question

Do you have any information about what the father of the groom's responsibilites are?

Answer

The father of the groom's involvement in the wedding can vary tremendously depending on what jobs have been allocated to other members of the bridal party.

He may be able to make a financial contribution, which is always helpful and in this case could spend time assisting in the organisation of the areas that he will be paying for.

One important job is to help his son draw up a guest list. Once the final list has been established, it would be helpful to provide full names and addresses of these people for later on down the line when the invitations have to be written and delivered.

On the day, he should be there for his son, fetching and carrying anything he might need, as well as a support to his wife. He should arrive at the ceremony venue in plenty of time to help meet and greet guests and then position himself behind the best man and groom on the right of the aisle. He will also be required to witness the signing of the register.

If there is a receiving line at the reception, he should be a part of it.

After the big day he might offer to drive you to the airport for your honeymoon, and he could also transport any wedding gifts from the reception venue to your home.
