Emma's answers to Second time around

Question

My partner has not been married before but I have. Since my divorce, my former partner has died. Will we be able to get married in our local church?

Answer

The vows which are made in a Church of England marriage ceremony are 'Till death do us part'. If your ex-husband is no longer living, then you can, in theory, re-marry in church. The best thing to do is speak to your minister as soon as possible and make sure he has no objections but you should be able to have church wedding, as it is only divorcees with partners still living who cannot be married in church under the current legislation.
