Emma's answers to Clothes for witnesses

Question

We are having a civil ceremony with a small number of friends and family. I have two close friends who I have asked to be my witnesses/bridesmaids. However one is a large built size 16 and the other is a petite size 10. Neither are keen on wearing dresses so could you suggest any alternative outfits?

Answer

As witnesses, your friends would sit with the rest of the guests until the ceremony is over and it is time to sign the register. In most case they would dress similarly to other guests. However, if you want them to stand out, why not suggest they simply wear the same colour and arrange for them to wear a beautiful corsage which will emphasise their importance.

If you would like them to look more like bridesmaids, you could arrange for a dressmaker to make trouser suits - I think if you want them to wear the same thing and they are very different in shape and size, you will really need to have it made.
