Emma's answers to Fairy tale reception

Question

I've chosen a gold silk dress with quite a full skirt and the wedding reception is in the ballroom of a local hall. The entrance to the ball room is via a brick courtyard and some steps. I would like to make the atmosphere in the ballroom and the courtyard sort of fairytale. The walls of the ballroom are painted a bright turquoise colour so there is no need to add colour to the room! The room has a very high ceiling and large floor to ceiling windows on one side and two fireplaces on the other side. How can I decorate the courtyard and hall to create an ambience?

Answer

How wonderful this all sounds! Lighting is the key to creating a magical ambience. If the velue allow, you could arrange candles on each table and continue the look through in the courtyard - and dim the electric lights. Fairy lights in white also look magical.

For a magical fairytale look, you could drape a white, ivory or gold fabric out from the centre of the ceiling to create a really dramatic look - just ensure that all your candles are carefully well out of the way of any fabric.

Complement the turquoise colour with gold and ivory - it will be an incredibly 'classy' colour scheme.
