I am getting married this year and was hoping to have a romantic theme at my reception, but have recently discovered that my venue will not allow candles for insurance purposes. Can you suggest any alternatives to candlelight that will create the right mood?

How about fairy lights? These can be placed on tables, included in floral arrangements, strung around the edge of the dance floor and even used to decorate the walls.

If you're having a summer wedding, you could ask your venue if you're allowed to have candles outside. You could have large torch candles creating romantic lighting when any guests are mingling outside in the evening.
