Emma's answers to Black and White dress code

Question

Please can you help? We are having a black & white themed wedding & would like all our guests to wear black & white, how would you word it on our wedding invites?

Answer

The usual way to ask your guests to wear a specific form of dress is to simply add a dress code to the bottom of your invitation as follows:

Dress code: Black and white

OR

Dress code: We are basing our celebration around a black and white colour scheme and would be delighted if you could reflect this in your choice of outfit.

If it's an evening reception then you may want to consider making it a black tie event which can look very stylish and is a more common dress code than simply black and white.

Whilst many guests will love having a dress code and it can make a celebration seem that little bit more special, don't be surprised or upset if some people do not oblige as not everyone will want to wear black and white and won't be forced into wearing something they don't feel comfortable in. Also don't be put out by any young ladies wearing white dresses and looking like brides either!
