Emma's answers to Venue split decision!

Question

We are in a dilemma about venues. My partner prefers Italy and I want my family with me, so would prefer Highcliffe Castle in Dorset. Now we have seen both locations we love them both and now can not decide where to have our special day. Help!

Answer

If you both love different venues, then you are going to need to compromise. Perhaps you could invite your family to Italy for a ceremony there? Or, if this is not possible maybe your husband-to-be will change his mind about Dorset if he sees how important it is to you to have a family wedding?

If not, perhaps you could marry in Italy at your fiancé's choice of venue, and then throw a party back at home in England to celebrate with your friends and family? You could even have a blessing in England which you could invite everyone to. Alternatively, you could marry in Dorset, and then honeymoon in Italy.

You should sit down and discuss the many pros and cons with your fiancé, taking into account both families' opinions, hopes and dreams. Your wedding day is important to both of you equally, and you need to reach any major decisions together. Think of it as good practice for married life!
